The coach registration process is compulsory for all Student Union affiliated groups with instructor/ coach led sessions. This process offers support for clubs & societies to ensure all their coaches &/ or instructors meet the required safety and professional standards. 


If your group submitted the required information for your coach for the last academic year (i.e. this is not a new coach or instructor) then the only document that needs to be submitted is the new public liability insurance certificate.


However, if you are registering a coach for the first time and have not previously submitted documentation we require the following:


Photo ID

Proof of qualifications

Proof of professional membership (if linked to public liability insurance)

Public liability insurance (if not a member of any professional governing bodies)

Sporting CV

Failure to register a coach or instructor prior to activity taking place will result in the suspension of your group.  


Please note the following:

  • The Union will not provide funding for Level 1 certified coaches. This is because level 1 qualifications are usually Assistant Coach qualifications and as such their insurances are usually only valid under the supervision of a higher level coach.
  • £20ph is the suggested rate for a Level 2 coach 
  • £25ph is the suggested rate for a Level 3 coach and above 
  • The Union will not provide more than £25ph funding for a coach or instructor 
  • Clubs need to ensure they have checked with coaches if their rates are inclusive or exclusive of travel expenses as this could alter costs significantly
